parametric sculpture that challenges traditional material hierarchy, this piece combines timber and rammed earth in an innovative design. Designed for display on tables, cabinets, or standalone on floors, it juxtaposes natural materials to create striking visual and tactile contrasts.
The timber structure suspends a rammed earth core, reversing conventional support systems where dense materials like concrete typically bear lighter materials. The balanced and symmetrical arrangement ensures stability while creating a dynamic suspension effect.
Shadows and voids and hierarchy play a crucial role, with the timber’s open design and central obelisk emphasizing depth and framing the earthy mass. These voids add intrigue while serving as functional grab points for movement. The rammed earth, layered in ascending dark ascending tones, contrasts the warm hues and planed texture of the timber. Smooth yet gritty, the compacted earth reinforces its solid, grounded presence, framed by the cradle of lighter-toned Iroko wood beams and columns which display a tonal hierarchy between natural colouring of pieces, evoking warmth and delicacy.
